Erste BYB City Ride
Ride story

1st BYB City Ride

The first Backyard Bicycles City Ride is complete.

Although there were only two of us in the end, the atmosphere could hardly have been better. The route followed industrial tracks and riverside forest from Mannheim towards Heidelberg.

The mix of urban scenery, quiet woodland and open paths along the Neckar made the ride special. With Heidelberg in view, the idea was clear: no rush, no pressure — simply ride and explore together.

After a relaxed break, we returned to Mannheim. Exactly the kind of ride we enjoy: easy-going, social and full of small details you often miss alone.

Fahrrad an der Kollerfähre
Ride story

2nd BYB City Ride

From the weekly market through riverside forest and across the Rhine landscape on two ferries.

This time there were three of us. After coffee at the market square, we rode through the university grounds, riverside forest and along the Rhine to Rheinau, then took the ferry to Altrip.

Across the Rhine, the landscape opened up with water and long riverside paths. Via Speyer and the Koller ferry, we continued to Schweinebucht and returned through Brühl, Rheinau and Seckenheim.

Harbours, industry, ferries, Rhine meadows and quiet nature alternated throughout — a relaxed ride with good conversation and plenty of river atmosphere.

Special ride nach Wald-Michelbach
Special ride

To Wald-Michelbach

Almost 100 kilometres, nearly 500 metres of climbing and a spontaneous ride into the Odenwald.

From Mannheim via Weinheim, the road kept climbing past small lanes, woodland and typical Odenwald villages. Beyond Heiligkreuzsteinach it was clear: this would not be an easy spin.

A waterside break, feet in the stream, snacks and good conversation were all part of the day. In Wald-Michelbach, we swapped the long queue at the summer toboggan run for a nearby beer garden.

The return via Neckargemünd and Heidelberg was much flatter, with long quiet stretches along the Neckar and perfect evening light. Road bike or e-bike — what mattered was riding together.
